Dear Chesterfield Republican Friend:
I’ve been honored the past two years to serve as Chairman of the Chesterfield County Republican Committee. I have enjoyed working alongside each of you to elect our Republican candidates so that they can advance the values we share.
Together we’ve experienced great successes along with some disappointments. In 2016 we carried Chesterfield for the Trump-Pence ticket, as well as for Congressman David Brat and 4th District Congressional nominee Mike Wade. In 2017, despite the most difficult political environment in a generation, we carried Chesterfield for most of our candidates. Our hard work made the difference in very close races for Delegates Roxann Robinson and Riley Ingram, whose wins provided the margin by which our own Kirk Cox is now Speaker of the House of Delegates, and Delegate Lee Ware continues to serve as House Finance Committee Chairman. We were also proud to welcome and elect Carey Adams as our new County Treasurer.
While serving as Chairman of the CCRC has meant so much to me, I’m writing to let you know that after much consideration I have decided not to seek another term. Being Chairman is a labor of love, but is an extremely time consuming position. The next Chair will have to expend extraordinary energy to meet the challenges of growing our party and activating new volunteers. Because of my family obligations, I have concluded that the CCRC needs someone who can devote themselves to the position.
I want to thank all of you for the hard work and dedication you’ve shown during my term. In particular, I want to thank the members of the Executive Committee. Our Vice-Chair of Precinct Organization Carey Allen, along with Magisterial District Chairs Aaron Mathes, Jay Whay, Gib Sloan, Carolyn Bunda and Richard Stoneage, and all of our Precinct Captains, have always made sure that our candidates can count on the Precincts in Chesterfield being covered on Election Day with our Chesterfield Republican sample ballot. I also want to thank Carey for always being able to step in and run our meetings when family situations have prevented me from being there.
Our Vice-Chair for Finance Tyler Craddock has been responsible for our successful fundraising events such as the Lincoln-Reagan Dinner and GOPtoberfest, which enabled us to directly contribute nearly $30,000 to our candidates. Proceeds from these events also financed the production of eighty thousand sample ballots, seventy-five 4′ x 4′ ticket signs, radio and newspaper advertising which targeted our growing Hispanic community, thirty-two thousand robo-calls to Republicans in all communities, and other operations to support our candidates. Tyler was so ably assisted in these efforts by our Vice-Chair of Special Projects Tracy Seredni, who knows how to put on entertaining and fun events and also was responsible for our Committee’s presence in the community at events such as 4th of July parades in Brandermill and Hampton Park, the Chesterfield County Fair, ChesterFest and Midlothian Day.
Some of the positions that enable the CCRC to function smoothly day in and day out do not often get the attention they deserve: Recording Secretary Carmen Williams, Corresponding Secretary Bill Jefferson, and our past and current Treasurers Danny Smith and Patrick Regan, have performed their respective duties flawlessly. And I know we have all been proud to see Carmen emerge as a statewide leader helping our candidates communicate with voters who don’t always vote Republican, but who naturally share our values. We have focused on getting our Republican message to a greater audience, which has paid dividends. That outreach will have to be a continued focus as we move forward.
In closing, let me again thank all of you. The CCRC is a volunteer-driven organization, so we cannot be effective without all of your dedicated efforts year in and year out. You give of your time, talents and treasure because you believe in our principles and understand that the way to advance those principles is to elect Republican candidates at all levels of government.
The CCRC and our volunteers worked harder and did more to support each and every one of our candidates than any other political organization in Virginia. I’m proud to have helped the CCRC set a high bar for Republican committees around the Commonwealth. It’s been my honor to serve in a number of leadership roles over the years, especially the past two years as your Chairman. I look forward to continue working in the trenches with you in the years ahead to elect our candidates and advance our principles.
Sincerely,
Jerry L. Baldwin
Chairman
Chesterfield Co. Republican Committee
